PHILADELPHIA–“City Council made their last session of 2019 memorable and impactful with their passage of reforms to Philadelphia’s 10-year tax abatement for developers, which should allow additional revenue to flow towards our public schools.
“These reforms are a long time coming. For years, the PFT has called for increases in education funding, particularly at the state level. These calls have grown louder as we continue to call for the resources needed to fix our toxic school buildings. With today’s legislation, City Council has once again stepped up in a meaningful way, as Harrisburg continues to neglect its obligation to provide a ‘thorough and efficient’ public education to our children.
“We applaud the Councilmembers who overwhelmingly voted for swift passage of these reforms, and look forward to this legislation being signed into law by Mayor Kenney.”
