The PFT represents nearly 14,000 dedicated individuals working in Philadelphia public schools today.

PFT members serve students and families in nearly every role inside our schools — from the classroom to the front office, the nurse's station to the cafeteria.

What the PFT Does

Negotiate the contract

Negotiates the collective bargaining agreement that establishes working conditions, salaries and benefits.

Administer benefits

Administers union-won benefits, including dental, prescription and vision care services.

Support members

Assists members with work-related problems.

Offer professional development

Provides ongoing training and growth opportunities for members.

Champion research-based programs

Promotes the use of research-based programs proven to raise student achievement.

Keep members informed

Keeps members up to date on education issues that affect their work and students.

Advocate politically

Advocates politically on behalf of members and students.

We are leading the fight to reduce class sizes, expand early childhood education, use proven education programs, make schools safe and orderly, and offer resources and support for teachers, staff and students.
