PFT President Steinberg Statement on Shootings of PPD Officers

October 10, 2026

PHILADELPHIA (October 10, 2026) – Following is a statement from Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT Local 3) President Arthur G. Steinberg:

“The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers extends our deepest condolences to the family of Officer Shane Seiber, as well as to the FOP Lodge 5 and entire Philadelphia Police Department on this shocking loss. We send our wishes for a full, swift recovery to the PPD officer who survived this horrific overnight assault.

"Police officers know too well the toll of gun violence on our communities. They put themselves in harm's way daily to keep us safe. We are forever grateful for their service and sacrifice.

"The PFT continues to demand sensible gun regulations that keep firearms away from those who would use them to terrorize, harm, and kill others."
