PFT, AFTPA on AFT Endorsement of Kamala Harris for President

HOUSTON (July 22, 2024) – Following is a statement from Arthur Steinberg, president of the American Federation of Teachers Pennsylvania (AFTPA) and the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT), on the endorsement by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) of Kamala Harris for President of the United States:

“Delegates to the 2024 AFT convention in Houston, Texas, today overwhelmingly voted to endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States. I proudly joined that vote with AFTPA and PFT delegates in favor of this historic nomination. A former prosecutor and U.S. Senator, Vice President Harris would be the first Black and AAPI woman to serve as the Democratic Party nominee.

“Vice President Harris has fought her entire career to even the odds for working people, families with young children, consumers, seniors, survivors of crime, and women and girls. Kamala Harris takes on bullies, scammers, and predators like Donald Trump fearlessly and with a heart for the people. The energy here in Houston among educators from across the country at the AFT Convention has been absolutely electric with excitement for VP Harris' candidacy.

"The members and retirees of AFTPA and PFT will work tirelessly in communities across Philadelphia and the Commonwealth to ensure Pennsylvania once again blocks Trump, his extremist running mate J.D. Vance, and their MAGA followers from assuming control of the federal government.”
