Apply to be a temporary political organizer (TPO) for the 2024 election!

The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers Local 3, an affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers, is seeking highly motivated and well-organized individuals to work in their political program over the summer and fall as a Temporary Political Organizer (TPO). With so much at stake in these upcoming elections, TPOs will play a critical role in getting out the vote in the labor community.

Position Overview

Temporary Political Organizers (TPOs) will learn the fundamentals of union political organizing campaign work by working with the PFT to engage members in the electoral process. TPOs will be asked to participate in all aspects of campaign work, concentrating on volunteer recruitment and including door-to-door canvassing, phone banking and volunteer recruitment. They may also be asked to assist with labor rallies, worksite visits, digital engagement and other union activities as needed.

    Passion for social and economic justice;

    Self-motivated with a strong work ethic;

    Positive attitude and a team player;

    Ability and willingness to work some nights and weekends;

    Availability from August, 26, 2024—November 5, 2024

    Reliable access to a laptop;

    Access to a reliable vehicle (some light travel required);

    Valid driver’s license and willingness/ability to drive (some light travel required);

    Prior teaching or training experience a plus;

    Bilingual a plus;

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

     Recruit, train and manage member activists for phone banking and canvassing events

     Must be able to hit metric goals on weekly and monthly basis

     Develop a strong activist base leading into Get Out the Vote (GOTV) activities ahead of the November election

     Build and maintain a strong and trusting relationship with union leadership, political candidates, activists and partner organizations

     Provide daily/weekly reports of voter contact and volunteer recruitment data to the PFT Legislative Representative and PFT Vice President

     Work across departments to implement organizational goals throughout the city

     Coordinate and execute weekly activist events throughout the city

Compensation

All positions will be compensated at $25.00/hour, inclusive of all taxes, for a total of $500.00 per week based upon working up to 20 hours per week (the amount will be prorated to hours worked).

This is a temporary position that can begin as early as August 26, 2024 and continue through Election Day, November 5, 2024. Selected candidates will be notified on a rolling basis.
